The New Waterford & District Sports Heritage Hall of Fame was established in 2013. Each year, an induction ceremony is held during New Waterford Coal Dust Days.

Central High School was a small high school located in New Waterford, Nova Scotia. Over a period of 12 years, they captured six provincial titles and one Canadian juvenile title in the sport of basketball. Join Lowell Cormier in discussing the history of those teams, as well as four of their star players: Richie Spears, Dave MacDonald, Donnie MacAulay, and George Hughes.Â

Defeated Sydney Millionaires 5 to 4 before 4000 fans at Sydney Forum. The game was one of the longest in Canadian Amateur Hockey with 91 minutes of overtime played.
